The Councillor of Economy, Industry and Employment, Marta Gastón, emphasised the “tag-along” effect for other companies by the recent establishment of new businesses in the logistics platforms, particularly the one in Huesca, where it was announced that the Hierros Alfonso group will target an extension of their company. “Investments such as Hierros Alfonso in Plhus encourage other companies to set their sights on our Logistics Platforms”, she said.
Gastón highlighted the importance of the investment by Hierros Alfonso, both for the Huesca Logistics Platform (Plhus) and for the city and outlying areas. She pointed out that “logistics is the future of Aragon, it is the strategic sector that will give the Community the specific weight it deserves”. Along these lines, she announced the official presentation of the Aragon Logistics Platform on 5th April, which will unify the management and marketing of the Aragon platforms also linked to the re-opening of Canfranc.
Hierros Alfonso decided to extend its industrial facilities in the Upper Aragon provincial capital, by purchasing a plot of 10,000 m2 in the Plhus Platform where it will build 6,000 square metres, consequently doubling the surface area of the building currently occupied by Hierros Huesca in the Sepes industrial estate.
The project will permit Hierros Alfonso to invest in new technologies, with the most up-to-date machinery and to increase its workforce, which at the Huesca plant, specialising in steel framework, has 21 workers, plus 3 new members for a double shift due to the needs to increase production that have led the company to move to Plhus in 18 months time. The total workforce of the group amounts to 135 workers, with six industrial companies and six distributors around the three provinces.
The announcement took place one day after the Councillor of Economy took part in the official opening of another emblematic industrial facility for Huesca in Plhus, when she said that “there are other companies interested in sites” although discretion is mandatory for the Administration until these operations are closed.
Gastón repeated the fact that the implementation of these industrial companies will attract others. Regarding Plhus, she explained that highway communications with the city has been the subject of claims by businesses from the outset of the Platform. They will be implemented once the project to double the lanes is modified, as is the case of the railway goods sidings, which, she explained, will also strengthen the situation providing a link to Europe, through the re-opening of the Canfranc international railway line.
Finally, the Councillor informed that on 5th April the strategy of the Aragon Logistics Platform will be publicly presented, as announced by the President of Aragon, Javier Lambán, at the last Debate on the Status of the Community. By unifying management and marketing of the Aragon platforms, the future will be secured, she added, “with all the shipping ports in our country setting their sight on us”.
