The facilities will be operational by the start of next year, covering a surface area of 120, 000 square metres.
Pikolin, the Aragon company that makes beds and mattresses, founded in Zaragoza in 1948 celebrated the official laying of the first stone of its new factory in Zaragoza on Thursday. Although the initial works to build these new facilities started last summer, it was this Thursday when the company held the formal event to lay the first stone. It was attended by the President of the Aragon Regional Government, Javier Lambán, the Mayor of Zaragoza, Pedro Santisteve, and the Central Government Representative in the Region, Gustavo Alcalde, among other authorities.
The factory will cover a usable surface area of almost 120, 000 square metres. During construction of this new facility, Pikolin will invest around 50 million euros. This plant, which is being built in the industrial area of the Zaragoza Logistics Platform (Plaza), is expected to be fully operational by January next year.
This company, belonging to the same family that founded “Soláns” currently provides employment for 790 people in Spain, of which 626 are employed at the facilities the group has in Zaragoza. In addition to its national production network , Pikolin has six other factories in Europe and two in south-east Asia, namely in China and Vietnam. It employs a total of 2100 workers in Spain and abroad.
The company closed 2015 with an increase in turnover, and expects to maintain that trend this year. Last year it invoiced 392 million euros, an 11% increase on 2014, which was largely due to the better results it obtained in the French market.
Today, a third of Pikolin’s turnover is in the Spanish market.
The company’s target is to exceed 400 million total invoicing this year.
