Through the Public Works Institute of Aragon, the Department of Economy, Industry and Employment will be holding the 17th edition of the Pilot International Forum from 17th to 23rd May. Under the slogan “The coming future”, Pilot 2017 will become the forum for debate on optimisation of logistics management, integrating clients and suppliers in the supply chain and taking full advantage of technological progress and the opportunity for logistics competitiveness, whilst taking the new trends in coming years closer to the demands by international markets.
Ramón Tejedor, managing director of the Aragon Public Works Institute, and Jesús Arnau, manager of the Business Development and Improvement Unit of the same organisation, presented a press conference on Tuesday with the schedule for this new new edition of the forum. This.will be held in Fraga and Zaragoza, the headquarters of two of the logistics platforms initiated by the Aragon Regional Government, within the framework of “Aragon Logistics Platform”, which also includes the Huesca (Plhus) and Teruel (Platea) platforms. In addition to presentations and round tables, with the participation of 23 experts, this year the forum includes the XVII Pilot Award and four visits to state-of-the-art railway, airport and training facilities in our region, which will permit “showcasing the logistics potential of Aragon”, explained Tejedor.
This edition of the forum is also encompassed in the “Aragon Logistics Platform” framework and represents consolidation of the commitment by the Autonomous Community to logistics, added to improved communications, creation of infrastructures and logistics platforms and the driving force behind the management of knowledge and innovation. These have all converted Aragon into a geo-strategic enclave that must be taken into account at international level, as a region with major realities and a huge amount of potential in terms of logistics.
XVII Pilot Award
On the other hand, three large companies and four SMEs will describe their best practices in order to win the Pilot Award for Excellence in Logistics. This edition is the first time the three Aragon provinces are represented in the final stage of this award. More specifically, in the “Major Companies” category, the pharmaceutical company “Baxter Sabiñanigo, Tevapharma and La Zaragozana are competing, and in the Small and Medium Enterprise category, the award could go to the Teruel Historical Centre Business Association, the AF3 Venice Port Functional Scope Home-owners Association, Hierros Alfonso Group and La Coruñesa.
The activity will begin with the four logistics visits, which anyone registered at the conference may attend. On Wednesday 17th May, the visit will be to Plaza Railway Logistics Centre and the Innovation Centre for Aragon Professional Training (CIFPA); on Friday 19th to the Zaragoza Airport Goods Handling Centre, and on Monday 22nd to the ITAINnnova TIC Logistics Demonstration Centre.
Fraga will be the venue for part of the PILOT Forum schedule for the second year. This will be on Saturday 20th. A round table will be held to discuss “Logistics and Business Opportunities”, which will be moderated by Ramón Tejedor with participation by Javier Pardiño, Director of Becton Dickinson; Josep Maria Gardeñes, President of the Business Organisations Confederation of Lleida (COELL) and Joaquín Tejera, President of the Bajo Cinca Inter-sectoral Association. This will be followed by a presentation of honour by the Councillor of Economy, Industry and Employment, Marta Gastón: “The company of the future”, by Antonio Cobo, Managing Director of Opel Spain.
The event will continue in Zaragoza on 22nd and 23rd May. On Monday the SEAR Award will be given for the Best Logistics Innovation, and a speech about “Sustainability of Supply Chains”, and the final “elevator pitch” will then be held for the PILOT Award for excellence in logistics 2017. On Tuesday 23rd May, the day will start with a round table about “World Logistics”. Ana Isabel González, President of the Spanish Logistics Centre and Director of the Procter & Gamble Supply Chain, Global Clients, will be in charge of analysing “The Future of the Total Supply Chain” followed by the prize giving ceremony for the Pilot Awards for Excellence in Logistics 2017, with the Conference of Honour “Innovation and Competitiveness” by Cristina Garmendia, President of COTEC.
